Pu-erh is a fully fermented black tea from China and is unique in that it is often pressed into cakes of various shapes which improve with age. Some of the cakes are very large and small amounts are chipped off for brewing tea, and others are small enough so that one or two are used for each cup. Little heart shaped pu-erh tea cakes are great for Valentines Day.

Pu-erh tea is reputedly an excellent aid for digesting fatty foods, which is why some Chinese greasy spoons serve it after a meal (does it neutralize MSG as well?).

I’m interested in how people brew the small elegantly shaped pressed tea so that the shape can be enjoyed. It seems a shame to just drop them into a tea pot.
